The CDC has approved the updated COVID vaccine for all over the age of 6 months and have recommended everyone over the age of 6 months be vaccinated. 

 

We strongly urge anyone who has not been vaccinated to be vaccinated against COVID.  

 

We agree with the Infectious Disease Society of America who supports this recommendation as this will allow individuals who choose to receive the vaccine to do so under public or private insurance, removing an important barrier to access. 

 

The most important people to receive this new vaccine are individuals at increased risk for severe COVID-19 infection, including people 65 years of age and older and those with underlying medical conditions such as obesity, chronic lung disease, chronic heart disease, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, those who are immune-compromised and those who are pregnant.  It is also strongly advised that people who are in contact with those who are at highest risk of severe disease be vaccinated because the vaccines may decrease the risk of transmission.

As we have been hearing and reading in the news, there is controversy about whether younger, healthy people should get the vaccine.  Here is an article which is very informative.

We plan to have both Pfizer, Moderna available.  We will also plan to offer Novavax after it is approved.  

Timing for COVID vaccines:  

• Over 65 or at risk for severe disease: Get vaccine 4 months after infection/previous vaccine. Don’t wait more than 6 months. 

• Under 65 and not high risk: Wait at least 6 months.

RSV vaccine: We are recommending it for over 60 years old with other health conditions.  For now, we are advising the otherwise healthy to wait and not get it right away.  

 

Flu shots are available.  You can get one now.  It is okay to wait until October/November and the duration of its effect will last longer through the flu season by delaying.

 

Mixing vaccines. It is okay to get flu and COVID together or flu and RSV. We are not recommending all 3 at once.
